Mangia! North Beach - a history food and cultural tour $80 about five hours Named one of the 100 best things about San Francisco by Gourmet magazine and featured on Bay Area Backroads.
Join GraceAnn Walden, San Francisco restaurant columnist, on a romp through North Beach. Learn why the Italian people came to North Beach and how they lived. We also explore Italian food in North Beach today and 150 years ago. We taste focaccia from an almost 100-year-old bakery, Italian cookies and sausage and have lunch at a three-star-restaurant as part of the fun. We enjoy antipasti, pasta and dessert, plus beverages including a glass of wine.
Nob Hill Tour $90 about five hours
Secrets and Tastes of Nob Hill is a walking tour, which includes the history of the prominent families who built their mansions on Nob Hill and a tour of Grace Cathedral. We enjoy wine tasting at the Fairmont with fruit and cheese buffet, a visit to the spa at the Huntington, lunch at the elegant Big 4 and dessert at the Ritz Carlton.
Food Lovers Tour of San Francisco $150 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We start with pastries from Tartine Bakery and fresh coffee will be served at the Chieftan Bar & Restaurant.
We will proceed directly via mini-bus to Alemany Farmer’s Market, where we will snoop, shop and have a terrific tamale. Mr. Nash will conduct a tasting of his olive oil. Next we will traipse across the city, then on to the new Cheese Plus, formerly Leonard’s 2000 for a cheese tasting and short talk from the new owner and cheese expert, Ray Bair. Our next stop is William Cross Wine Merchants, where I will conduct a wine tasting.
Back on the bus, we’ll zip up to a three-star restaurant for a mini cooking class and a light lunch.
